Gott ist nicht allmächtig | God is not almighty!
Vor vielen Jahren wurde ich in der Schule gefragt: “Ist Gott allmächtig?”. Ich: “Ja”. Der Mitschüler: “Kann Gott dann einen Stein erschaffen, den er nicht mehr aufheben kann?” Eigentlich eine dumme Konstruktion, man konstruiert ein Paradoxon und bringt es mit Gott in Verbindung. Einige Jahre später habe ich herausgefunden:
Gott ist im philosophischen Sinne nicht allmächtig. Er kann sogar relativ einfache Dinge nicht, die jeder von uns kann: Gott kann nicht lügen.
Niemals lügt der ruhmwürdige Gott Israels und empfindet keine Reue;
denn er ist kein Mensch, daß ihn etwas gereuen müßte.
Jesus: "Ich bin die Wahrheit!"
Denn der Sohn Gottes, Jesus Christus, hat nicht Ja und Nein zugleich verkörpert;
in ihm ist vielmehr das Ja Wirklichkeit geworden.
Es mag bestimmt Leute geben, die behaupten: “Gott könnte theoretisch lügen, wenn er es wollte, er tut es halt nicht.” Von außen betrachtet ist es das gleiche, ob jemand etwas niemals tut oder es nicht kann. Diskussionen darüber sind lediglich Haarspalterei.
Vermutlich gibt es noch andere Dinge, die Gott nicht kann. Ich vermute, das nach-der-Geographie-Klassenarbeit-Gebet “Bitte lass Stockholm die Hauptstadt von Dänemark gewesen sein.” hat nicht sehr viel Aussicht auf Erfolg.
Gott ist im praktischen Sinne allmächtig
Er hat die Welt und ihre Naturgesetze geschaffen. Er kann die Naturgesetze auch temporär aufheben oder die Welt irgendwann wieder zerstören.
Danach sah ich einen neuen Himmel und eine neue Erde.
Der frühere Himmel und die frühere Erde waren vergangen.

I suppose there are some other things God can’t do. I suspect that the post-geography-classwork prayer “Please let Stockholm be the capital of Denmark” doesn’t stand much of a chance.
God is omnipotent in a practical sense.
He created the world and the laws of nature. He can also temporarily suspend the laws of nature or destroy the world again.
I saw a new heaven and a new earth:
